To achieve these objectives, preparations for the following investments are under way.
Development of public services
Protection of the Miskolc area karstic potable waterTo ensure safe water supply for Miskolc and environs the following is required: designation of a protecting zone according to effective government regulations, detection of polluting sources in the protecting zone and determination of their effect on the potable water quality of outlets at operating, specially protected and vulnerable water bases. Elimination of polluting sources, creation of a monitoring system.
Development of the Miskolc electric rail systemCreation of a long-term, competitive, environment-friendly, fast, safe public transport system; thus encouragement of utilizing public transportation; creation of a modern cityscape.
This development plan includes the complete reconstruction of the Miskolc electric rail system, creation of wide platforms, passanger assembly areas, advanced customer information system; extension of the track and purchase of 19 new vehicles.
Development of the Selyemrét open bathRestoration of the Selyemrét 20th August Open Bath – the only public bath in Miskolc – extension and development of its grounds for all-year use as an amusement park.
Wastewater sludge utilization projectAs of April 2006 the possibility of agricultural disposal of sludge produced at the Miskolt central wastewater treatment plant has ceased. Temporarily, produced sludge is deposited at waste disposal sites.
The project aims to achieve the treatment and stabilization of sludge in digestion towers. Gases produced during the anaerobic digestion process can be utilized in the production of electric power during the whole year. After implementation of the project stench, noise load and sludge output is reduced significantly.
